Ideal Gas Equation of State (PV = μRT)
jee-mainjee-advancedneet-ug
PV = μRT
What each symbol means
| Symbol | What it stands for |
|---|---|
| P | Pressure of gas (Pa) |
| R | Universal gas constant = 8.314 J mol⁻¹ K⁻¹ |
| T | Absolute temperature (K) |
| V | Volume of gas (m³) |
| μ | Number of moles (mol) |
When to use this
Valid only for equilibrium states of ideal gas. For fixed amount of gas (μ constant), only 2 variables are independent. Combination of Boyle's Law, Charles' Law and Avogadro's Law.
