Spring-Mass Time Period (T = 2π√(m/k))
jee-mainjee-advancedneet-ug
T = 2π√(m/k)
What each symbol means
| Symbol | What it stands for |
|---|---|
| T | Time period (s) |
| k | Spring constant (N/m) |
| m | Mass attached to spring (kg) |
When to use this
For a mass-spring system (horizontal or vertical). Independent of amplitude — hallmark of SHM. For vertical spring, equilibrium position shifts by mg/k but T remains same. For two identical springs on either side: effective k = 2k, so T = 2π√(m/2k). NCERT derives from F = -kx. Frequency ν = (1/2π)√(k/m).
